Where export plates fail non-residents
The 30-day cliff
Most Ausfuhrkennzeichen are valid for 15–30 days. After that, the car is, legally, off the road. Renewing or re-issuing means paying TÜV, insurance and registration fees again from scratch.
Insurance without an NCB
Border insurance is rated as worst-case, single-trip cover. A 30-day premium for a Porsche or motorhome can exceed €1,000 — more than a full year of standard German cover.
No EU-wide legality
